New Nissan QASHQAI: Safer and better equipped than ever

  • Apple CarPlay / AndroidAuto now standard across QASHQAI range
  • Suite of standard active safety systems added to ST+
  • Pedestrian Detection with Intelligent Emergency Braking up to 60 km/hr for Ti

Nissan is updating one of Australia's favourite small SUVs, the Nissan QASHQAI, adding comprehensive connectivity and active safety enhancements across the range.

The changes come as the MY20 QASHQAI models head to Nissan's nationwide network of dealers following five years of success in the hugely competitive small SUV segment, which features 26 active participants.

The popular Nissan QASHQAI has comfortably established itself as a consistent Top 5 performer-in-class since its most recent update in 2017.  Last year, 11,653 QASHQAI models were retailed for a 9.5 percent share of the segment1.

The arrival of the updated QASHQAI range offers customers greater levels of connectivity and technology, as well as more opportunity for individual expression in the form of the limited edition N-SPORT model, which will sit between the ST-L and range-topping Ti.

For the entry-level ST, additional equipment comprises Apple Car Play and Android Auto compatible infotainment system with voice recognition and digital radio receiver integrated into Nissan's next-generation 7-inch screen.

The ST+ model adds new rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights with High Beam Assist, fog lights, Intelligent Driver Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Warning technology. For the Ti model, its already very high level of specification is enhanced by the addition of Pedestrian Detection (Intelligent Emergency Braking) that operates at speeds up to 60km/h.

"Leveraging a host of advanced technologies as part of Nissan's Intelligent Mobility platform, sharp looks and a comfortable and user-friendly interior, the QASHQAI is justifiably etched into the Australian small SUV market as a successful and popular competitor," said Stephen Lester, managing director of Nissan Australia.

"Updates to the 2020 QASHQAI model range, including standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, increase its appeal and make it a clear standout in the crowded small SUV segment of the market."

The Nissan QASHQAI is safer than ever thanks to additional technologies added to the range as part of the brand's commitment to Nissan Intelligent Mobility (NIM).

Infotainment System upgrade

There are two new head units used across the range, the A-IVI Display Audio which is found on the ST model, and the A-IVI NAVI used on the rest of the range.

The A-IVI NAVI unit provides smartphone mirroring for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, shortcut icons and widgets, a customisable menu screen, multi-touch capacitive screen, 3D map displays, SMS/text messaging, free map updates, single line search function and a connection manager for USB and smartphones.

The map upgrades are free for the first five years and are upgraded via a USB inserted into a computer and then transferred to the vehicle. Previously, the SD card-based system required visits to a Nissan dealership to be upgraded. Map upgrades are available twice yearly in March and September.

The Nissan N-TREK series has just been expanded with the announcement of the Pathfinder N-TREK Special Edition, which goes on sale in Australia in February.

Nissan QASHQAI N-SPORT limited edition model arrives in Australia

Automotive activewear has never looked better. The just-arrived Nissan QASHQAI N-SPORT dons a tantalising, sleek and sophisticated look for its launch in Australia, available now through the Nissan dealer network countrywide.

The N-SPORT continues Nissan's recent run of special new models, offering individual visual appeal and builds on the strengths of the existing range in terms of drivetrain and interior comfort.

The QASHQAI N-SPORT limited edition model, which will be limited to 600 units, presents a sportier face for QASHQAI with body-coloured bumpers front and rear that incorporate matt silver trim highlights. Bodyside mouldings with matt silver trim and wheel arches are also body-colour coded, and the wheel size for the ST-L-based N-SPORT has increased to 19-inches.

Further exterior flourishes include silver-painted caps for the auto folding and heated door mirrors, while inside the headlining is finished in black.

"As a limited edition model to the range, the Nissan QASHQAI N-SPORT will provide a further variant with which we will continue to expand the appeal of the range within this competitive and very active segment of the market," says Stephen Lester, managing director of Nissan Australia.

"We have enjoyed success with the QASHQAI since its arrival in Australia in 2014, and we are confident that the N-SPORT will appeal to the subset of small SUV drivers who favour a sporty, eye-catching visual presentation, in addition to the many safety and convenience features the range offers.

"With this level of equipment enhancement, the QASHQAI N-SPORT presents a premium and sophisticated design with a distinctive look, a valuable point of difference in a crowded small SUV market," he says.

The QASHQAI N-SPORT joins the range priced from $35,000, just $1,000 above the ST-L on which it is based, and fits between the ST-L and range-topping Ti grades.

Its drivetrain package is unchanged from the regular QASHQAI; featuring a 2.0-litre four-cylinder DOHC 16-valve petrol engine with Nissan's Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System. The engine produces 106kW of power @ 6,000rpm and peak torque of 200Nm @ 4,400rpm. The N-SPORT drives through Nissan's Xtronic CVT transmission.
