Nissan celebrates 20 years of X-TRAIL with updated model range for 2022 including all-new ST+ variant

• Nissan Australia celebrating 20 years of X-TRAIL, with more than 272,000 vehicles sold since 2001
• Updated MY22 X-TRAIL will arrive in December, offering new safety and technology features
• The updated model also welcomes an all-new variant, the ST+, which builds on the well-equipped ST grade
• This update follows the MY21 refresh, which saw Nissan's next-generation infotainment system, including Apple CarPlay¹ and Android Auto¹, added across the X-TRAIL range

Melbourne, Australia – Nissan is celebrating 20 years of the adventure-ready X-TRAIL in Australia with a very special birthday present — an updated MY22 model that delivers even more safety features, along with the introduction of an entirely new variant, the ST+.

The feature-packed ST+ will form a new step between the ST and the ST-L grades, and offers an increased active safety package and more cabin technology, delivering even more value to X-TRAIL customers.

Available in two- or four-wheel drive, the new ST+ does exactly what its name suggests, adding to the already well-equipped ST grade with new safety and technology features, like an Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection and Satellite Navigation.

The new grade is joined by an increased safety offering across the ST-L and TI grades, with both X-TRAIL variants now offering front parking sensors for the first time.

This update follows a similar equipment upgrade delivered in February 2021, which saw the X-TRAIL equipped with Nissan's next-generation infotainment system, including the addition of Apple CarPlay¹ and Android Auto¹, displayed through a new 7.0-inch touchscreen with updated graphics.

"This updated MY22 model is an evolution of the X-TRAIL brand, and sticks true to the Nissan principle of increasing safety and technology at every opportunity.

"With four grade levels, a choice between two- or four-wheel drive, and the option of five or seven seats, the X-TRAIL is one of the most versatile SUV offerings in Australia. And with the introduction of a new grade level, there is an X-TRAIL to suit every Nissan customer."

Nissan X-TRAIL – MY22 - engines and transmissions

The Nissan X-TRAIL is available with a 2.0-litre petrol engine in manual-equipped ST grades, and with a powerful 2.5-litre petrol engine in all other variants.

The 2.0-litre petrol engine boasts 106kW of power and 200Nm of torque while the more powerful 2.5-litre alternative has 126kW of power and 233Nm of torque.

Both four-cylinder petrol engines are efficient and responsive. The 2.0-litre unit features Nissan 's DIG (Direct Injection Gasoline) technology and twin variable timing control to deliver strong fuel economy and torque. The 2.0-litre X-TRAIL ST manual consumes 8.2-litres per 100 kilometres travelled on the combined cycle.

The 2.5-litre engine is available in all grades, and offers a strong blend of performance and efficiency, consuming as little as 7.9L/100km on a combined cycle in the 2WD X-TRAIL ST

The two petrol-powered variants of the Nissan X-TRAIL have a 60-litre fuel tank and the minimum recommended fuel type for both engines is 91RON unleaded petrol.

The 2WD-only 2.0-litre powered X-TRAIL ST uses a smooth-shifting six-speed manual transmission, whereas all 2.5-litre variants (available in both 2WD and 4WD) are mated to Nissan 's Xtronic CVT with manual mode (MCVT). This transmission 's broad gear ratio coverage and low-friction design help deliver strong acceleration and fuel economy.

The 4WD X-TRAIL comes equipped with Nissan's advanced Intelligent 4x4 system to deliver excellent traction in a variety of driving conditions. Controlled by the driver using a simple centre console-mounted rotary dial, Intelligent 4x4 has three settings: 2WD mode, AUTO mode and LOCK mode.

Both 2WD and 4WD variants of the X-TRAIL come fitted with Hill Start Assist (HSA). This automatically keeps the vehicle 's brakes applied when taking off from an incline to help prevent the driver from rolling backwards when setting off.

The 4WD X-TRAIL variants are equipped with Hill Descent Control (HDC), which uses the car's ABS braking system to control the vehicle's speed at approximately 7km/h when traversing particularly steep downhill terrain.
