MELBOURNE, Australia – Nissan's advanced e-POWER technology has been confirmed for Australia, with the innovative hybrid technology to launch in 2022.
Exclusive to Nissan, and a key pillar in the company's Intelligent Mobility strategy, e-POWER technology is a unique and innovative approach to electrification that makes every day driving both exciting and efficient.
Unlike existing hybrid systems, Nissan's e-POWER is a true EV solution, combining the seamless acceleration of an electric motor and high-output battery with a fuel-efficient petrol engine for complete range freedom without ever needing to recharge.
In conventional hybrid systems, the wheels are powered by an electric motor and a petrol engine. However, Nissan's e-POWER technology sees the driving wheels powered exclusively by an electric motor. The petrol engine is used only to charge the vehicle's battery when necessary, allowing for a true EV drive experience, and lower fuel use and emissions.
Similar to the LEAF and LEAF e+ EVs, e-POWER vehicles will also benefit from Nissan's e-Pedal drive experience, with drivers able to accelerate and decelerate using only the accelerator pedal.

"While a traditional hybrid adds battery power to an internal-combustion engine, e-POWER delivers an EV-like driving experience, including exhilarating acceleration and near-silent operation, all while drastically reducing your fuel use and emissions.

Nissan e-POWER first debuted on the Japan-only Nissan Note in November 2016, with the model going on to claim the best-selling car in Japan title in 2018. It would then be joined by the electrified Kicks SUV and Serena minivan, with e-POWER sales surpassing 500,000 units by the end of March 2021.
The Note, Kicks and Serena remain Japan-market vehicles, and aren't currently under consideration for Australia.
Second-generation e-POWER technology now pairs the linear, effortless acceleration and refined performance of an electric motor that's of similar size and power output as found in Nissan's electric vehicles with an upgraded three-cylinder, 1.5-litre turbocharged engine used to charge the lithium-ion battery.
Thanks to the pure electric motor, there's no power-delivery delay as with an internal combustion engine or traditional hybrid. The instant response delivers a high-torque feel and exhilarating acceleration, all while lowering fuel use and emissions by only using the petrol engine when at its most efficient.
Nissan Australia will introduce e-POWER technology in 2022.
