Melbourne – The all-new Nissan X-Trail has progressed to the final round of Wheels Car of The Year testing, one of just four vehicles from a field of 17 selected to compete for top honours.

Praised for its cabin execution and thoughtful packaging, as well as the availability of an innovative e-Power electrified powertrain, X-Trail had already claimed victory in the publication's recent SUV Mega Test, before further impressing in COTY testing.

"Cabin execution is a real highlight with its modern design, clever storage solutions and optional seven seats impressing the judges," says Wheels Digital Editor, Alex Inwood.

"Thoughtful packaging solutions are also a strength against our Cabin Design and Execution criteria. Rear doors that open to 90 degrees to allow easier entry/egress for example, and a third row of seats that folds flat into the floor and doesn't eat into boot space.

"(The) new hybrid powertrain also impressed the judges for its performance, efficiency gains and relative value compared with atmo petrol versions."

The all-new X-Trail now moves into the final round of testing, where it will compete against a diverse four-vehicle field for the title of Wheels Car of The Year.

The finalists will now be assessed over country loops and highway driving, followed by city testing that incorporates peak hour, school zones and low-speed driving.

The winner of Wheels Car of The Year will be announced this week.
